Final Fantasy VII Remake leads Game Pass’s next wave, as Deep Rock Galactic heads out

Cloud Strife is heading into Game Pass, but there’s another date worth circling before you settle into Midgar. Deep Rock Galactic leaves the library on 31 October, part of a substantial outgoing group that makes this month’s second wave feel like a change of shelves as much as an expansion.

Microsoft’s 20 October line-up announcement puts Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade on 29 October. For subscribers who have been waiting for an opportunity to try Square Enix’s reimagining, that is the headline. For a regular co-op group losing its usual game, the departures may land harder.

Midgar, with the important edition detail

Intergrade is the first part of the remake project, rather than the complete story of the original Final Fantasy VII. The official Xbox product listing describes a game built around the escape from Midgar, with expanded scenes and additional narrative material. It also includes FF7R Episode INTERmission, the Yuffie side story.

That makes the edition name useful information rather than decorative packaging. Newcomers get the main game and a separate perspective on its setting, but should not expect this single download to carry them through every location and event they remember from the 1997 original.

The combat mixes real-time action with command-driven decisions. That combination is a substantial part of the appeal: it leaves room for the immediacy of controlling a character while still asking you to think about what the party should do next. Subscription access lowers the cost of finding out whether that particular compromise suits you. It doesn’t make the game shorter, or turn the remake project into one self-contained purchase.

The dates and tiers to watch

These are selected additions from the new announcement. “PC Game Pass” refers to PC access; a tier name alone should not be read as granting console access.

Game Date Listed tiers
Scramble Knights Online (Game Preview) 26 October Ultimate, PC Game Pass
The Séance of Blake Manor 27 October Ultimate, Premium, PC Game Pass
Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade 29 October Ultimate, Premium, PC Game Pass
Mouthwashing 29 October Ultimate, Premium, PC Game Pass

The two lead games, Intergrade and Mouthwashing, are listed for cloud, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Check Microsoft’s full schedule for individual platform details.

A subscription library moves in both directions

Other 31 October departures include Day of the Tentacle Remastered, Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga and Wartales. Football Manager 26’s PC and Console editions follow on 10 November.

There’s an obvious difference between a single-player game you can finish and a co-op fixture that becomes part of a group’s routine. In the latter case, losing subscription access can turn an ordinary evening’s arrangement into a conversation about purchases and who still wants to play. That friction deserves space alongside the arrival graphics.

The incoming selection does offer contrasting commitments. A large RPG can occupy the calendar very differently from a horror game or an evening spent trying something unfamiliar. The value lies in the games you actually want time with, rather than the length of an additions list.

October’s wave gives patient Final Fantasy players a clear opening. It also gives existing subscribers a reason to look backwards through their installed library before looking forwards: the most urgent game this month might be the one already waiting there.
