PS5 survival players are being offered two very different places to build a home: a floating island that can become a skyship, or the considerably less welcoming Exiled Lands. Funcom has confirmed Aloft and Conan Exiles Enhanced for early 2027, with existing PlayStation Conan owners receiving the enhanced PS5 version free.
The 27 October announcement from Funcom on PlayStation Blog also confirms purchased Bazaar items and DLC carry over from PS4. Buy either PlayStation version and the other is included. The Isle of Siptah expansion remains a separate purchase.
That last detail keeps the offer in proportion. There’s a meaningful upgrade here for existing owners, but “Enhanced” doesn’t turn every piece of paid content into part of the base game.
Conan’s long-lived world gets another platform step
Funcom promises improved environments, characters, lighting and effects, plus a redesigned interface and performance improvements. The Legacy of the Giant-Kings story arc is included at console launch. More seamless travel between the Exiled Lands and Siptah is also planned.
These are publisher commitments rather than results from our testing. No exact launch dates or PS5 frame-rate targets accompany the announcement, and purchased-content carry-over shouldn’t be expanded into a promise about save, world or server migration.
For a survival game, that distinction is substantial. Equipment can be replaced; a carefully arranged settlement represents a different kind of attachment. Players considering a platform move will need the eventual migration details as much as a comparison of shadows.
Conan’s current Steam description provides the wider context: an established survival world, originally released in 2018, already upgraded to Unreal Engine 5 on PC. Its play ranges from solo survival to co-op and persistent multiplayer, with temperature, food, shelter, dungeons, building and siege combat shaping the experience.
That mixture explains why an interface and performance overhaul could be as useful as a visual one. A world built around crafting and construction asks players to manage systems repeatedly. Making those interactions clearer has a chance to improve an ordinary session, not merely a promotional screenshot.
Aloft takes the home with it
Aloft’s PS5 release will be its console debut, including the PC Early Access updates and the 1.0 content. Its central idea is wonderfully direct: turn a floating island into a home that sails through the sky.
Astrolabe’s Steam page describes exploration, resource gathering, crafting, farming and animal care, with fungal corruption threatening the airborne ecosystem. Restoring biodiversity and discovering knowledge sit alongside the business of building somewhere to live. The developer presents survival as rewarding constructive action rather than relentlessly punishing mistakes.
That gives the game a different emotional starting point from Conan. A home in the clouds suggests movement and discovery; a defended foothold in Hyboria suggests resistance. Neither premise establishes quality by itself, but together they show how much variety the word “survival” can conceal.
Aloft entered PC Early Access on 15 January 2025. Its Steam Early Access notes explain that community feedback informs development, including changes to content, systems and the interface. Console players are being promised the accumulated version of that process, rather than the initial release transplanted unchanged.
A fuller launch, with details still to come
Waiting for the 1.0 package can benefit players who prefer a more settled starting point. It also means the PS5 edition has to make a strong first impression against games that already occupy their friends’ evenings. Survival games ask for time, often before their most interesting possibilities open up.
Our ranked survival-games feature looks at how differently the genre can turn that time into memorable experiences. These announcements offer another useful contrast: one long-running world receiving a platform upgrade, one newer game bringing a distinctive setting to consoles.
Funcom hasn’t attached UK prices or precise release dates to this announcement. For Conan owners, the free upgrade makes the next round of information worth watching closely. For Aloft, the challenge is more inviting: persuade players that their next survival home ought to have a horizon that moves with it.
